Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the North Belt Freeway Available for Review
LITTLE ROCK (2-22) The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD), in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, has completed a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS) for the Northbelt Freeway Project in central Arkansas, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.
The SDEIS is currently available for review at the city halls and public libraries of Sherwood, Jacksonville and North Little Rock. Additional copies are also available for review at the office of Metroplan at 501 W. Markham, Suite B, and at the AHTD District Six office at 8900 Mablevale Pike in Little Rock. Further information about the SDEIS and the project will also be available soon on the project website at:
Location Public Hearings will be held on March 20 and 21, 2007, to take comments from the public on the information contained in the SDEIS. The informal sessions will be held Tuesday, March 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene, 9860 Brockington Road in Sherwood, and Wednesday, March 21st from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cato Elementary, 9906 Jacksonville Cato Road, in Sherwood. AHTD staff members will be available to provide information and answer questions at the hearings, and maps and other informational displays will also be available.
The AHTD has identified a preferred route, which is indicated on the attached map with a dotted line (see map). This recommendation is based upon review of the impacts outlined in the SDEIS, consultation with other agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and consideration of public comments collected throughout the environmental review process.
Comments about the project should be sent to the AHTD Environmental Division, PO Box 2261, Little Rock, Arkansas 72203-2261 and be returned by April 12th.
