Motor Patrol Operator - Finish - Grade IX

 

Characteristics of Work

Under general supervision of the Area Maintenance Supervisor or Job Superintendent, this position is responsible for the operation, at full performance, and for the care and maintenance of a motor patrol to support District construction and maintenance operations.

Examples of Work

The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department is an "at will" employer.

  • Perform duties for construction and maintenance operations requiring cutting ditches and grades and spreading various road building materials.
  • Perform preventive maintenance service checks, assist crew members in repairing equipment and obtaining repair or maintenance parts.
  • Perform field maintenance, minor repairs, etc.
  • Operate other types of equipment as required.
  • Deploy crew members and signs.
  • Load, unload, and stack bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc.
  • Direct the operation of the crew in the absence of the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, and to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.  Thorough knowledge in the capabilities and limitations of the equipment. Demonstrated skill in equipment operation and the ability to cut fine grades. Ability to follow and give oral instructions. Ability to provide leadership and training to employees in the daily operation of the crew.  Valid Class A commercial driver's license with tanker ("N") endorsement.  Pre-employment drug test required and subject to random drug testing according to the provisions of the AHTD Drug Testing Program.
